📖 **TODAY’S BIBLE READING PSALMS 22–24**Today's reading is only three Psalms, but don't rush through them.There is a tremendous picture here.**Psalm 22 The suffering Saviour.Psalm 23 The faithful Shepherd.Psalm 24 The coming King of glory.**Read them together and watch where Scripture takes us.Psalm 22 begins with words that immediately take us to Calvary:**“My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” Psalm 22:1 KJV**Hundreds of years later, Jesus would cry these words from the cross.**“My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” Matthew 27:46 KJV**But Psalm 22 doesn't stop there.David writes:**“All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head…” Psalm 22:7 KJV**At Calvary:**“And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads.” Matthew 27:39 KJV**Then Psalm 22:16 says:**“They pierced my hands and my feet.”**And verse 18:**“They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.”**That is exactly what we see surrounding the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.Psalm 22 was written long before Roman soldiers stood beneath the cross.Yet God had already spoken.Don't ever forget:**THE CROSS WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT.**Jesus wasn't a helpless victim of circumstances.God's plan of redemption was unfolding exactly as He had said.And then we turn the page.Psalm 22 showed us suffering.Psalm 23 shows us the Shepherd.**“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.” — Psalm 23:1 KJV**Notice David didn't say:“The LORD is **a** shepherd.”He said:**“The LORD is MY shepherd.”**That makes it personal.Because He is my Shepherd:**“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures…”**He gives rest.**“He leadeth me beside the still waters.”**He gives peace.**“He restoreth my soul…”**He restores.**“He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.”**He leads.But then the scenery changes.**“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death…” — Psalm 23:4 KJV**Notice something.David doesn't say we will never enter valleys.He says:**“Though I WALK THROUGH…”**The valley isn't your destination.You're walking **through it.**And David doesn't say:“I won't fear because I understand everything.”He says:**“I will fear no evil: FOR THOU ART WITH ME.”**There is the difference.The greatest promise in the valley isn't that God immediately removes the valley.**It is that God walks through it with us.**Then Psalm 23 ends with one of the most beautiful statements of confidence in Scripture:**“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life…”**Not some days.**ALL THE DAYS OF MY LIFE.**Then we arrive at Psalm 24.And suddenly the Shepherd is revealed as the King.**“The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” Psalm 24:1 KJV**Everything belongs to Him.Then comes the question:**“Who is this King of glory?”**And Scripture answers:**“The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.” Psalm 24:8 KJV**And again:**“Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.” Psalm 24:10 KJV**Think about the progression.In Psalm 22 we see suffering.In Psalm 23 we walk through the valley.In Psalm 24 we see **THE KING OF GLORY.**Maybe that's exactly what somebody needs today.You may be looking at suffering.You may be walking through a valley.You may not understand what God is doing.But don't stop reading in the middle of the story.**THE KING IS COMING.**Psalm 22 reminds us that Jesus suffered for us.Psalm 23 reminds us that Jesus walks with us.Psalm 24 reminds us that Jesus reigns over us.The One who was pierced...**IS THE SHEPHERD.**The Shepherd who walks with us through the valley...**IS THE KING OF GLORY.**So what is the Spirit saying to us today?When suffering comes, **LOOK TO THE CROSS.**When you enter the valley, **FOLLOW THE SHEPHERD.**When this world looks like it is spinning out of control, **REMEMBER THE KING.**Your Shepherd hasn't abandoned you.Your valley isn't your destination.And your King hasn't surrendered His throne.Maybe today you need to stop asking God to show you the entire road ahead...and simply stay close enough to the Shepherd to take the **next step.**🙏 **“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: FOR THOU ART WITH ME…” Psalm 23:4 KJV**And when you wonder who is ultimately in control:**“Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. 📖 **TODAY’S BIBLE READING — PSALMS 18–21**There is so much packed into today's reading.But one truth kept coming back to me:**Where is my confidence really resting?**Psalm 18 begins with David looking back at everything God had brought him through.He says:**“I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.” — Psalm 18:1 KJV**Then:**“The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust…” — Psalm 18:2 KJV**Look at those words.**My rock.My fortress.My deliverer.My God.My strength.**David had fought battles.He had weapons.He had soldiers.He had experience.But when David looked back over his life, he knew where his deliverance really came from.**THE LORD.**Sometimes God allows us to reach the place where our own strength isn't enough so we finally understand that it was never supposed to be.Then David says something in Psalm 18:30 that we need to settle in our hearts:**“As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried…”**Not sometimes perfect.Not perfect when I understand it.Not perfect when things turn out the way I wanted.**HIS WAY IS PERFECT.**That means when God's way and my way disagree...**I'm the one who needs to change.**Then we come to Psalm 19.David looks toward the heavens and says:**“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.” — Psalm 19:1 KJV**Creation is preaching every day.The sunrise.The stars.The moon.The vastness of the heavens.They all point beyond themselves and declare:**THERE IS A CREATOR.**But David doesn't stop with creation.He moves directly to something even more personal:**THE WORD OF GOD.**“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul…” — Psalm 19:7 KJV“The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart…” — Psalm 19:8 KJV“The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes…”Notice what God's Word does.**It converts.It makes wise.It rejoices the heart.It enlightens the eyes.**We don't need God's Word rewritten to agree with the culture.We don't need it softened to protect our feelings.We don't need psychology added to make Christianity work.**The law of the LORD is PERFECT.**Then David asks God to do something many of us probably don't ask often enough:**“Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.” — Psalm 19:12 KJV**Not:“Lord, show me what's wrong with everybody else.”But:**“Lord, show me what I can't see in ME.”**That's a dangerous prayer to the flesh.But it is a wonderful prayer for somebody who truly wants to walk with God.And then David finishes Psalm 19:**“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD…” — Psalm 19:14 KJV**Not just my words.**My thoughts too.**God sees both.Then Psalm 20 asks another heart-searching question without actually phrasing it as one:**What are you trusting in?**David says:**“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.” — Psalm 20:7 KJV**Today we may not trust in chariots and horses.But we have our own versions.Money.Jobs.Government.Doctors.Relationships.Our intelligence.Our experience.Our plans.Our bank accounts.None of those things can occupy the place that belongs to God.There is nothing wrong with using the resources God provides.**The problem comes when our confidence moves from the Provider to the provision.**“Some trust in chariots…”**“BUT WE WILL REMEMBER THE NAME OF THE LORD OUR GOD.”**Then Psalm 21 brings us to rejoicing:**“The king shall joy in thy strength, O LORD; and in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!” — Psalm 21:1 KJV**David doesn't rejoice in **his strength**.He rejoices in **God's strength.**And maybe that's the thread running through today's entire reading.Psalm 18:**THE LORD IS MY STRENGTH.**Psalm 19:**THE LORD'S WORD IS PERFECT.**Psalm 20:**THE LORD IS MY CONFIDENCE.**Psalm 21:**THE LORD'S SALVATION IS MY JOY.**So what is the Spirit saying to us today?Stop trying to be your own rock.Stop trusting your own understanding above God's perfect way.Look at creation and remember who made it.Open the Bible and allow God's Word to expose what is happening inside your own heart.Ask God to reveal the sins you don't even recognize.Watch your words.Guard your thoughts.And take a serious look at where your confidence is resting.Because sooner or later...**EVERY CHARIOT BREAKS DOWN.**Money disappears.People disappoint us.Strength fades.Circumstances change.But David discovered something that every believer needs to discover:**“The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock…” — Psalm 18:46 KJV**Your Rock is alive.Your Fortress still stands.Your Deliverer is still able.His Word is still perfect.And His salvation is still worth rejoicing over.🙏 **“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.” — Psalm 20:7 KJV**Before you begin your day, ask yourself:**WHAT AM I REALLY TRUSTING IN?** Don't just get through today's Bible reading.**Let today's Bible reading get through YOU.**#BibleReading #Psalms #KJV #WordOfGod #TrustGod #JesusChrist #ChristianLiving #DailyBibleReading #BibleStudy #joesoaresmusic

📖 **TODAY’S BIBLE READING — PSALMS 13–17**There is so much in these five Psalms that it is hard to know where to begin.But as I read them, I see something very real about the Christian walk:**David does not pretend everything is okay. He brings everything to God.**Psalm 13 begins with words many believers have probably felt but were afraid to say:**“How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?” — Psalm 13:1 KJV**David felt forgotten.But notice something important.He **felt** forgotten.That did not mean God had **forgotten him**.There is a difference between what I feel and what God has said.By verse 5, David says:**“But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.”**His circumstances had not necessarily changed.**His focus had.**Sometimes faith is simply saying:*“Lord, I don't understand what You are doing, but I still trust You.”*Then we come to Psalm 14:**“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.” — Psalm 14:1 KJV**Notice where the problem begins.**“In his heart.”**Before rebellion shows up in our actions, something has already happened in the heart.And we need to be careful that we don't only apply this verse to atheists.Anytime I knowingly live contrary to God's Word, I am living that moment as though God has no authority over me.That ought to cause every one of us to examine ourselves.Then Psalm 15 asks a tremendous question:**“LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?” — Psalm 15:1 KJV**And what follows isn't a description of somebody who merely **talks** about God.It describes somebody whose life has been changed.“He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart.” — Psalm 15:2 KJVNotice the words:**Walketh.Worketh.Speaketh.**Biblical faith isn't something we put on Sunday morning.**It affects the way we live.**Then Psalm 16 contains one of my favorite truths in today's reading:**“The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup…” — Psalm 16:5 KJV**David wasn't saying, “God, give me my portion.”David was saying:**“LORD, YOU ARE MY PORTION.”**There is a huge difference.We spend so much time asking God for things that sometimes we forget:**The greatest thing God can give us is Himself.**Then David says:**“I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.” — Psalm 16:8 KJV**There is a lesson right there.What have you **set before you** today?Your problems?Your bills?Your spouse?Your job?The news?Your fear?Your future?David said:**“I have set the LORD always before me.”**Whatever stays in front of our eyes eventually occupies our thoughts.Maybe some of us don't need God to remove the problem today.Maybe we need to stop putting the problem **in front of God.**And then Psalm 16 gives us this beautiful promise:**“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy…” — Psalm 16:11 KJV**Not partial joy.Not temporary joy.**FULNESS OF JOY.**And where is it found?**“In thy presence.”**We keep looking for joy in circumstances, people, possessions, entertainment, success and approval.God says it is found **in His presence.**Then Psalm 17 brings us right back to prayer:**“Hear the right, O LORD, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer…” — Psalm 17:1 KJV**And David makes a statement that really challenged me:**“I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.” — Psalm 17:3 KJV**Think about that word:**PURPOSED.**David made a decision concerning his mouth.Sometimes we ask God to control something we haven't even decided we want controlled.Our words matter.What comes out of our mouths reveals a great deal about what is happening inside our hearts.So what is the Spirit saying to us through Psalms 13–17 today?When you **feel forgotten**, trust His mercy.When the world rejects God, **guard your own heart.**Don't merely profess faith. **Walk it.**Stop treating God as the One who gives you your portion and realize:**HE IS YOUR PORTION.**Set the LORD before you instead of setting your problems before you.Seek joy in **His presence**, not in changing circumstances.And purpose in your heart that even your **mouth belongs to God.**Maybe somebody reading this started this morning asking the same question David asked:**“How long, O LORD?”**Keep reading.Because David didn't stay there.He went from:**“How long?”**to:**“I have trusted…”**to:**“The LORD is my portion…”**to:**“I shall not be moved.”**That is what happens when we stop allowing our circumstances to tell us who God is...**and start allowing God's Word to tell us how to see our circumstances.**📖 Don't just read the Bible to finish today's chapters.**Read until the Bible starts reading YOU.**🙏 **“I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.” — Psalm 16:8 KJV**#BibleReading #Psalms #KJV #WordOfGod #TrustGod #ChristianLiving #DailyBibleReading #JesusChrist #BibleStudy #JoeSoaresMusic
